Hi, it’s Simone Assboeck, professional dance instructor and founder of Dance Together NYC.
We’ve all learned what it means to be apart from one another and the ones we love over the past several months.
But we’ve also learned to be grateful, patient, loving, and gentle with ourselves and the world.
And we’ve also seen how we can truly connect with others…even if we’re not physically in the same room as one another.
I personally learned this myself when I pivoted my in-person dance school to an online one and learned how to work remotely and teach clients dance locally and around the world.
I had a true eye-opening experience on December 31st 2020 that I want to share with you…
That evening, I held a special live virtual New Year’s Eve dance party for my students.
Everyone was excited about gathering together and sharing our love of dance.
We danced, we talked, we had fun, and we felt connected.
And most surprising of all? I thought the party was only going to last for an hour or so, but we spent a whopping two and a half hours on screen together dancing the night away at home…together.
You’ve got to admit, you can’t always do that on a Zoom call, but we did!
After the party, I started thinking to myself, “What if I could do that on a larger level?”
I’d taught dance at live events around New York City including the Brooklyn Museum of Art and Midsummer Night Swing at Lincoln Center.
But now my curiosity was piqued: what if I could remotely teach dance to large group of people? What if I could remotely teach dance to people who are absolute beginners?
And what if I could connect us all through dance in a way that is filled with fun and excitement?
Even if we can’t be together in the same physical space, we can still be together and connect with one another in a meaningful way…through dance!
I personally invite you to join me for a celebration of dance on Friday, April 29th 2022 so we can celebrate dance, life, and ourselves. More details to come!
Be sure to check out the FAQ section below to learn how you can prepare for the event.

You do not need to know how to dance in order to participate in the event and no prior dance experience is necessary. A partner is needed for the event. This event is suitable for brand-new, beginning, intermediate, and advanced students of dance. Even if you’re an experienced dancer, you should show up because you can learn something new and celebrate with other people who are passionate about dance.
International Dance Day is a worldwide celebration of dance created in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute ITI. Every year on April 29th, people from all over the globe gather together to share their love of dance, promote the art, and encourage others to discover the wonderful world of dance. You can learn more about International Dance Day on the committee’s website at https://www.international-dance-day.org/
The event will be held live and online using the Zoom video conferencing platform. Simply register for the event and we'll send you a Zoom meeting link. You'll then join the Zoom meeting on April 29th. Be sure to show up on time to make the most of the event.
You can sign up for the event in advance by buying your tickets online. Tickets are sold on a per-person basis. We'll provide you with more details as we get closer to the date.
Good news! You only need a small amount of floor space in order to dance. We’ve found that 6 ft x 6 ft of clear space is a sufficient amount of space in which to dance at home. You can dance in your living room, patio, porch, rooftop, or even on the beach while you’re on vacation. As long as you have a wi-fi connection, you’re good to go!
You should wear comfortable clothing that will not restrict your movement. Layers are suggested. We also recommend wearing shoes with leather or other smooth, non-binding soles as they allow for easy turns. Shoes with "sticky" rubber soles, flip-flops and other loose-fitting shoes are not recommended.
You'll need a digital device (such as a desktop, tablet, or smartphone), an internet connection, and Zoom software. We highly recommend making sure your digital devices and Zoom software are up to date and working properly. You can learn more about Zoom on their website at https://zoom.us/
We’re so glad you asked! We want to spread the word and share dance with as many people as possible. You can share the link to this page with your friends, family, colleagues, coworkers, clients, neighbors, and anyone else you may know who wants to celebrate dance. Tell them to visit: www.dancetogethernyc.com/international-dance-day
Unfortunately, we cannot provide one-on-one technical support for Zoom. However, you can learn more about Zoom on their website, https://zoom.us/.
